Web site counters & analytics

IPstat. (I have blanked some parts of the IP-addresses)

Your Counter - a lot of Google searches.

Google Analytics - the other visit from India still missing.

We've had some discussion about Newsvine and Google Analytics, and that they are not working at the moment.

Because my Newsvine analytics are not working, I thought, that I could check my another site, compare different site meters and write about that.

The site

Virtual Storage is my personal web site, where I have stored some stuff, I don't wish to throw to virtual heaven. Even that it is the best ant site, there is in the Internet, it is not very popular.

IPstat II

IPstat provides all kinds of information and statistics about the visitors of your pages.

The strange thing with my recent statistics is, that the there are hits from Canada, India, Sweden and USA, which is not typical, and I became interested about that.

Your Counter

Your Counter adds one interesting information to IPstat information, which is the referrer. With Your Counter, you can find out, where the visitor are coming to your site.

And by looking at referrers and comparing it to IP addresses, I noticed, that my new visitors came to my site, with Google search. The only keywords, that were available were: "virtual storage" & "Pasi Hakkarainen". I think (and hope) that my new visitors outside Finland, were not searching for Pasi Hakkarainen. So I thought about "virtual storage". But when I try Google with "virtual storage", my page does not exist in the first five searcg pages, at least in my search. So I'm not sure, what were they searching for, before ending to my page.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is quite useful tool too. For example, it tells you, how much time the visitors spend at you page. Unfortunately the visits, from Sweden, Canada and the last one from India were not available yet. The data is few days old. But in few days with Google Analytics data, I can evaluate, if the visitors spend any time at my page. This will not tell me the keywords, but I'll tell me, if they found, what they were searching for.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Great article. But FYI, Analytics actually does tell you the referrer.
